In my travels around the Twin Cities visiting local game stores (LGS), I have had the opportunity to stop into stores that I hadn’t been to in years. I also had the opportunity to visit several stores that I had never been to before. One of the stores that I visited for the first times was Tower Games in Minneapolis.
Tower Games is a lovely store that sells all the standard game store fare, including board games, miniature games, card games, and role playing games. The store plays host to gaming events throughout the week, including a board game night, Magic: The Gathering Booster Drafts night, Dungeons & Dragons Encounters night, and miniatures gaming nights, particularly Warhammer 40K. Tower Games has a nice mix of retail space and gaming tables on its main floor and additional gaming space in the basement.

The most important thing that I learned about from my trip to Tower Games is the connected nature of gaming stores and the gaming community. Several years ago, Phoenix Games moved from Minneapolis to its current location in Deephaven. Tower Games was started and is run by the gamers who used to frequent Phoenix Games when it was in Minneapolis. Tower Games has done a great job of filling the gaming needs/desires of Minneapolis gamers who are unable to make regular trips to Phoenix Games. This goes to show the importance of the local aspect of the LGS. It also reminds me of how supportive of each other LGS tend to be, as LGS are virtually always run by gamers who appreciate other games.

Although my knowledge of Tower Games isn’t as great as my knowledge of some of the other LGS that I have visited, my impressions of the store are quite favorable. Tower Games has a nice physical space and seems to have a good community. It is definitely a place that I could see being a very nice gaming home.
